Heather HarkavyFounder and Executive Director · Guanaja program director
Heather grew up in South Florida fly fishing with her dad, her best friend, from a very young age, and always knew she wanted a career bringing more young people into the sport. Camp was the other half of her childhood: sleepaway camp in the mountains from 7 to 13, a counselor at the IGFA fishing camp from 14 to 18, and a youth program at Tropic Star Lodge in Panama through her college summers.
At Florida State she worked with fishing lodges and brands, which pointed her at a career in fly fishing, hospitality and youth education. She found Fish for Change after college and started trip leading in 2018, with the aim of raising a generation of change-makers through the F4C community.

Steve BrownFounder
A Colorado native with a deep-rooted passion for fly fishing and conservation. Several off-season journeys through Central America led Steve to the Bay Islands of Honduras, where he found expansive flats empty of other anglers and full of fish: permit, bonefish, tarpon and more. His dream of a small, sustainable fly fishing lodge became Fly Fish Guanaja in the spring of 2008.
Steve holds a Master's in English from Colorado State and created and taught writing courses at Colorado College, including river-related literature, writing through fly fishing, and a course on the rivers and oceans of Honduras. That mix of fishing and writing became the vision for Fish for Change. Read his letter from the founder.

Rebecca BrownFounder · Chief Financial Officer
From a fly fishing family, Rebecca spent her childhood exploring the Colorado backcountry. She is the glue that holds many teams together: reservations manager, logistics coordinator and bookkeeper for several fly fishing companies in several countries.
Her customer service and attention to detail are rare, and she brings long experience with nonprofits. Fish for Change couldn't be luckier to have her.
-
Beckie BrownFounder · Colorado program director · Board chair
Beckie's education was in adventure tourism business management and adventure guiding. She owned her own fly fishing guide outfit in Fernie, British Columbia, where she guided and lived for more than seventeen years, running women's retreats, youth fly fishing schools, learn-to-fly-fish programs and courses in fly tying and river and lake fishing.
Fly fishing is her passion, her hobby and her work, and sharing it is what fuels her.

Jesse ColtenMexico program director · Owner, The Xflats
Jesse grew up in Colorado and has been fish-crazy for as long as he can remember. He bought a little bed-and-breakfast in Xcalak and turned it into a permit haven that pulls anglers from all over the world.
If there's one word for Jesse, it's electric. His energy is contagious, he's all about community, and people gravitate toward him. Students are never bored with Jesse leading. The world is his classroom and we're lucky to be his students. See the Mexico weeks.

Dave SimpsonDigital Guru · Sealegs Digital
Based in Calgary, Canada, Dave got involved with Fish for Change when his son spent a week in Guanaja in 2026. The mission and the passion behind it were irresistible, and he had to help out any way he could. Through his company, Sealegs Digital, he now helps with the digital side of Fish for Change.
The lodges run the water. We run the week.
Each program is built with a lodge partner whose guides grew up on that fishery: Fly Fish Guanaja in Honduras, Soul Fly Lodge in the Bahamas, The Xflats in Mexico and Fly Fishing Costa Rica. The guides teach the fishing. Our trip leaders, almost every one of them an alum, run everything else.
